How To?

Want to make sure your windows are measured correctly? Wigger Draperies offers the expertise of our decorating team to come out and measure your windows for you but for the do-it-yourselfer here are a few tips.

Always use a steel tape to measure and measure all windows, even though they may appear to be identical. All measurements should be in inches and measured to an accuracy of 1/16th of an inch. When specifying measurements, always state WIDTH first, then HEIGHT.

Determine if you need to mount your window treatment INSIDE or OUTSIDE the window casing. Inside mounts pose an added degree of difficulty due to several factors. Cranks, latches, depth and squareness of the window opening must be considered.

For OUTSIDE MOUNTS: a) Measure from outside casing to outside casing. b) Measure width first in three places (top, middle and bottom of window) and record the LARGEST of the three. c) Measure height in three places (left, middle and right of window) and record the LARGEST of the three. d) This is the size of the window upon which additions will be calculated.

For INSIDE MOUNTS: a) Measure from inside casing to inside casing. b) Measure width first in three places (top, middle and bottom of window) and record the SMALLEST of the three. c) Measure height in three places (left, middle and right of window) and record the SMALLEST of the three. d) This is the size of the window upon which deductions will be calculated. If you're unsure of the type of window covering you'll be choosing take an outside mount measurement, an inside mount measurement and also measure the DEPTH of the window casing. These measurements will assist your decorator with recommendations for the best window treatments available.
